Description

Ambrette seeds are obtained from tropical hibiscus. A pale yellow essential oil is obtained from crushed flower seeds by steam distillation. Initially, a solid mass is obtained, similar to the iris concrete, since the extracted oil contains a lot of fatty acids. This mass is aged for several months in order for it to acquire a musky, wine-like, floral pleasant aroma. After that, all fatty acids are removed by dissolving in dilute alcohol. Subsequently, ambrette oil is obtained, which must be stored in the cold as an alcohol solution of 10-50% so that bitter aromas do not appear. Liquid oil is used in high-quality perfumes, mainly to impart an intense and characteristic musky tone, it is softer and smoother than synthetic ambrette.
