Together with labdanum and oak moss, it forms the basis of the chypre chord. Like other citrus materials, this is the top note that disappears quite quickly after applying the fragrance. The fragrance of bergamot brings freshness, coolness and contrast to perfumes; this chord is used in all directions and genres. The highest quality raw materials are obtained by direct cold pressing from bergamot harvested in Italian Calabria. Only the peel of the fruit is used for this oil. However, sometimes shoots, leaves and flowers are involved in production. This product is called bergamot-petitgrain oil. Bergamot fruits are not edible, but, in addition to perfumes, bergamot notes (more precisely, the peel and oil of the fruit) are also used to flavor food and tea.
