Ambretta – 1. an artificial analogue of amber. 2. Abelmosh nutmeg is a plant of the Malvaceae family, a species of the genus Abelmosh, originating from Eastern India. It is cultivated in Madagascar, Seychelles, Ecuador and Colombia. The seeds of the plant contain an essential oil consisting of farnesol (90%), ambrettolide and decyl alcohol. Essential oil is used in high-quality perfumes to impart a strong and characteristic musky tone, which is smoother and softer than synthetic ambrette (see paragraph 1).
