Description

Papyrus is a tropical herbaceous plant up to 5 meters tall with almost leafless shoots up to 7 cm in diameter. It comes from Africa. Synonyms: Indian papyrus. Papyrus blooms in late summer. The fruits are brown in color and resemble nuts. The geography of the plant varies from subtropical to tropical desert. A favorable factor for flowering is full or partial sunlight. Like many tropical plants, papyrus is extremely sensitive to cold. Large papyrus thickets are found in wetlands, shallow lakes and along the river banks of the wettest parts of the African continent. In deeper waters, papyrus is the main component of large masses of floating plants called sud.
